GAME 39: BLUE JACKETS VS. FLYERS
NATIONWIDE ARENA, 6 P.M.
TV: FOX SPORTS OHIO / FOX SPORTS GO
RADIO: CD 102.5 FM & BLUEJACKETS.COM
SETTING THE STAGE: If the Blue Jackets ever needed and/or wanted to get back on the ice for a game, it will be hard to top their anticipation for this one.
Less than 24 hours ago, they dropped a heartbreaker to the New York Rangers at Nationwide Arena. They held a 4-1 lead in the second period and played well enough to win, but the Rangers were quite opportunistic down the stretch and found the game-winning goal with 16.5 seconds remaining in the third period.
Yes, it stung. But if there's a remedy to get rid of the bitter taste that's currently in their mouths, it's going right back to work on home ice - and they have another important game against a divisional foe, the Philadelphia Flyers, who are coming off a win on home ice over the Tampa Bay Lightning on Saturday.
This is the first meeting of the season between the Blue Jackets and Flyers, who own two of the longest win streaks in the NHL so far this year. Philadelphia has gone 2-5-2 since its 10-game winning streak ended, and the Blue Jackets want to rebound on the right side of the ledger with a strong performance on Sunday after two straight regulation losses.
NOTEWORTHY NEWS: John Tortorella gave Sergei Bobrovsky a much-needed and deserved night off on Saturday against the Rangers, only his second since early December. Bobrovsky will get the call on Sunday against his former team. The Blue Jackets are expected to use the same lineup, with the lone change being the goaltender.
