Blue Jackets Military Appreciation Night

by BlueJackets.com Staff / Columbus Blue Jackets

COLUMBUS, OH — The Columbus Blue Jackets will salute those who have served or are currently serving in the nation’s armed forces during the club’s annual Military Appreciation Night on Saturday, November 8 when the Jackets host the Tampa Bay Lightning at Nationwide Arena. Game time is 7 p.m. The night will feature several tributes, recognition of all branches of service and a charitable auction of camouflage-style jerseys worn by the Blue Jackets players during pre-game warm-ups.

To kick off the game proceedings, a US Marine will participate in the ceremonial puck drop. Following the puck drop, the United States Army Reserve Command Band will perform the National Anthem alongside the US Navy Color Guard as 20 Airmen from Wright-Patterson Air Force Base unfurl a 60-foot American flag on the ice. The airmen, along with a larger group coming from Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, will be guests of the Blue Jackets. The majority of the group will make the round-trip from Dayton to Columbus in the FOX Sports Ohio Blue Jackets Fan Express bus. Also that night, several active-duty military members and their families representing the USO of Central & Southern Ohio will have the opportunity to watch pre-game warm-ups from the penalty boxes and will be treated to rides on the Zamboni® ice resurfacing machine.

As a way to show their support and gratitude for all active and retired service members, the Blue Jackets players will wear specially designed camouflage-style jerseys during pre-game warm-ups on Military Appreciation Night. The complete set of authentic worn jerseys will be individually autographed by the respective players and will be available for bidding in a silent auction located on the arena’s Bud Light Terrace during the games on Tuesday, November 4 and Saturday, November 8. Every jersey will have a starting bid of $150 with bids being accepted through the second intermission of the Saturday game. Proceeds from the auction will be split between the Blue Jackets Foundation and the USO of Central & Southern Ohio.

In addition to the ongoing offer where active military personnel who present a valid military ID in the Big Lots Box Office on game day receive one free ticket, all verifiable active duty, reserve and retired service members may purchase advance tickets for Military Appreciation Night at a 50% discount.  For more information on this offer, visit www.bluejackets.com/military.
