The Columbus Blue Jackets have assigned right wing Joe Motzko and defensemen Aaron Johnson and Ole-Kristian Tollefsen to the Syracuse Crunch, Columbus' American Hockey League affiliate, and designated center Mark Hartigan for assignment to Syracuse, club President and General Manager Doug MacLean announced today. In addition, goaltender Tomas Popperle has returned to Sparta Praha of the Czech Elite League.
The Blue Jackets also announced the club has placed defenseman Rostislav Klesla on Injured Reserve due to a stress fracture of his right leg, which was diagnosed on Sept. 26. He is expected to miss four to six weeks.
Columbus begins its fifth NHL campaign on Wednesday at 7 p.m. against the Washington Capitals at the MCI Center. The Blue Jackets play their home opener on, Oct. 7 against the defending Western Conference champion Calgary Flames. Game time at Nationwide Arena is 7 p.m. Both games will be televised live on FSN Ohio beginning at 6:30 p.m. with IceBreaker, a 30-minute pre-game show.
