The Columbus Blue Jackets have signed left wing Jakob Lilja to a one-year entry level contract, club General Manager Jarmo Kekalainen announced today.
Lilja, 25, registered 12 goals and 25 assists for 37 points with 18 penalty minutes and a +3 plus/minus rating, while averaging 18:03 of ice time in 52 games with Djurgardens IF in the Swedish Hockey League in 2018-19. He set career highs in assists and points, leading the club and ranking eighth-T in the league in assists and 10th-T in points. He added 3-5-8 in 19 playoff outings to help the team advance to the SHL final.
A native of Limhamn, Sweden, Lilja has notched 48-51-99, 71 penalty minutes and a +14 plus/minus rating in 222 career SHL contests with Djurgardens, Linkoping HC and Rogle BK since making his league debut in 2012-13. In 2017-18, he recorded 12-10-22, 10 penalty minutes and a league-leading three shorthanded goals in 40 appearances with Linkoping HC. He finished third-T on the team in goals.
The 6-0, 194-pound winger has also tallied 40-23-63 in 131 career games in Sweden's second division (Allsvenskan) with Rogle BK and IF Troja-Ljungby from 2011-15. He added 30-28-58 in 70 career outings in Sweden's junior league (SuperElit) with Rogle BK from 2010-13.
