COLORADO AVALANCHE (25-27-1, 51 pts./5th Northwest Division): Head Coach Tony Granato… The Avs have gone 3-7-0 in their last 10 games and had a two-game winning streak snapped in a 4-1 loss at St. Louis on Saturday… Colorado ranks 20th in the NHL in scoring (2.62/tied with the Blue Jackets) and are 25th in goals-against average (3.06)… Colorado is led by LW Ryan Smyth (16-26-42, 53 games), RW Milan Hejduk (20-20-40, 53 games) and LW Wojtek Wolski (11-20-31, 52 games)… G Peter Budaj is 16-21-1 with a 2.95 GAA and .898 SV% and one shutout in 40 games… The Blue Jackets are 7-22-2 all-time vs. the Avalanche, including 4-10-1 at home… The Jackets have won five of the last seven meetings, including all three this season - 4-2 on Oct. 30 and 6-1 on Jan. 2 at the Pepsi Center and 4-3 on Jan. 13 at home.

LaCOSTA EARNS FIRST NHL WIN IN FIRST NHL START: Rookie G Dan LaCosta made the first start of his NHL career vs. San Jose on Feb. 7 and made 28 saves, including four in overtime, to lead the Blue Jackets to a 3-2 win over the Western Conference-leading Sharks. LaCosta, who was Columbus’ fourth pick, 93rd overall, in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft, was added to the roster on emergency recall the day before. He had previously appeared in two games (one this season and one in 2007-08, stopping 22-of-24 shots in relief appearances.

BACKMAN'S SECOND GOAL OF THE SEASON COMES AT JUST THE RIGHT TIME: D Christian Backman scored the game-winning goal at 1:33 of overtime to give Columbus a 3-2 win over San Jose on Feb. 7, snapping the club's first three-game losing streak since Dec. 4-7. The goal was Backman's first since Oct. 14 at San Jose. It was the second game-winning goal of his career. The other came on Mar. 13, 2006 when he scored in overtime to give St. Louis a 3-2 win over the Blue Jackets. He was also +3 vs. the Sharks, matching his season-high (Oct. 30 at Colorado).

TYUTIN HAVING CAREER YEAR OFFENSIVELY: D Fedor Tyutin has tallied 4-4-8 in his last 13 games, including a career-high three-game goal scoring streak with 3-1-4 from Jan. 31 to Feb. 6, to raise his season point totals to 7-17-24. He leads all Blue Jackets defensemen in scoring, has set a career high for goals and is one point shy of matching his best point total. He notched 6-19-25 in 77 games with the New York Rangers in 2005-06. In addition, he leads all Blue Jackets in ice time, averaging 23:25 per game.

MISCELLANEOUS: LW Kristian Huselius collected the 200th assist of his NHL career vs. San Jose on Feb. 7 giving him 146-200-346 in 522 career games… LW Rick Nash has tallied 8-11-19 in his last 15 games, collecting points in 10 of those contests… C Jason Williams scored his 10th goal of the season vs. San Jose on Feb. 7 and has now tallied 3-3-6 in 10 games as a Blue Jacket… D Christian Backman’s game-winning goal vs. San Jose on Feb. 7 was the first overtime goal scored by a Blue Jackets defenseman since Mar. 11, 2006 (Bryan Berard vs. Edmonton).


WHERE THEY STAND: Since Dec. 11, the Blue Jackets have gone 14-10-2… Columbus enters the week with a 25-23-5 record and 55 points in 53 games played, which puts them in 10th place in the Western Conference standings. The Jackets trail fifth place Dallas (59 pts, 52 games) and sixth place Anaheim (59 pts., 56 games) by four points; seventh place Minnesota (57 pts., 52 games) by two points; and eighth place Vancouver (56 pts., 52 games) and ninth place Edmonton (56 pts., 53 games) by one point.

JACKETS HOPE HISTORY REPEATS ITSELF AFTER SNAPPING SKID: The Blue Jackets snapped a three-game losing streak with a 3-2 overtime win over San Jose on Feb. 7. The skid marked the third time this season the club has lost three games in a row in regulation. On each of the previous two occasions, the club responded very well. After dropping three-straight Oct. 24-27, the club earned points in six-straight games going 4-0-2 from Oct. 30-Nov. 15. When the Jackets lost three consecutive games Dec. 4-7, they responded by winning seven of their next 11 contests, posting a 7-3-1 mark in those games.

ATTENDANCE ON THE RISE AT NATIONWIDE ARENA: Since Dec. 27, the Blue Jackets have averaged 16,808 fans at nine home games at Nationwide Arena, including three crowds in excess of 18,000 and two sellout crowds of 18,144 or better… Through 26 home games this season, the Jackets have attracted 388,434 fans for an average of 14,940… Through the first 26 home games in 2007-08, the club had attracted 356,856 fans (14,274 average).

MISCELLANEOUS: Last Saturday's win over the Sharks was the 50th overtime win in franchise history as the club is now 50-46-33 in games decided in overtime or a shootout… This season, the Blue Jackets are 4-1 in games decided in overtime – Wins: Oct. 10 at Dallas (5-4), Dec. 17 vs. San Jose (2-1), Jan. 27 vs. Detroit (3-2) and Feb. 7 vs. San Jose (3-2); Loss: Nov. 3 at NY Islanders (4-3).

NASCAR ELEMENTS HIGHLIGHT NATIONWIDE NIGHT FRIDAY VS. DETROIT: The latest Nationwide Night will be held on Friday, February 13 when the Jackets host the Detroit Red Wings. The first 15,000 fans in attendance will receive a free Blue Jackets lunch cooler courtesy of Nationwide. A select number of fans who receive coolers containing a Blue Jackets player autograph will participate in an on-ice contest for a chance to win a trip to the Kentucky Motor Speedway to attend an upcoming NASCAR Nationwide Series race. In addition, fans can test their driving skills in the Nationwide Series Race Simulator on the main concourse prior to the game and check out the Nationwide Show Car throughout the evening.

JACKETS, VERIZON WIRELESS INTRODUCE THREE GAME PLUS PLAN: The Blue Jackets are offering fans an opportunity to guarantee their seats to some of the best games of the season and receive garage parking with the Three Game PLUS Plan, presented by Verizon Wireless. The plan includes two tickets to three games and one parking pass for each game in the Neil Avenue parking garage for $150 (upper bowl seats) or $330 (lower bowl seats). Fans can select from the offers two plans. Plan 1 includes – Mar. 15 vs. Detroit, Mar. 29 vs. St. Louis and Apr. 11 vs. Minnesota. THIS WEEKEND IS "HOCKEY WEEKEND ACROSS AMERICA": The Blue Jackets, Chiller Ice Rinks and USA Hockey are celebrating "Hockey Weekend Across America" this weekend. Friday is USA Hockey's Wear Your Jersey Day in which all players and fans are encouraged to wear their jerseys to school or work and then to that night's game between the Blue Jackets and Detroit Red Wings. On Saturday, the Chiller Ice Rinks will be conducting Free Beginner Clinics for kids ages 6-12 who are not currently registered in classes or members of a local hockey association. The clinics will be held at the following times at the respective Chiller locations – 9 to 10:45 a.m. (Easton, 3600 Chiller Lane), 10 to 10:45 a.m. (Dublin, 7001 Dublin Park Dr.) and 12:15 to 1 p.m. (North, 8144 Highfield Dr. in Lewis Center). In addition, all Chiller Ice Rinks will be working with local youth associations and hosting Bring a Friend to the Rink Day that day as guests will be able to attend public skating sessions at a reduced cost. The Varsity Division of The Blue Jackets Cup Tournament featuring area high school teams will be held at the Dispatch Ice Haus and the Chiller Ice Rinks this weekend. For information on all activities at The Chillers, Also, the Columbus Ice Hockey Club, which is an official Hockey Is For Everyone program, will send five teams to represent Columbus at the Hockey in the Hood Tournament being held in Detroit this weekend. The tournament will feature teams from 11 different cities.


Wednesday, Feb. 11 – "Anheuser Busch Celebrity Bartending Appearance": Blue Jackets players Rick Nash, Derek Dorsett and Kris Russell will serve as celebrity bartenders on Wednesday from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the R Bar, located in the Arena District at 413 N. Front St. The tips collected by the players will be donated to the Columbus Blue Jackets Foundation.

SUNSHINE VACATIONS "PLAYER FOR THE DAY" CONTEST UNDERWAY: Sunshine Vacations is giving one lucky fan the chance to be a Blue Jacket with the "Player for a Day" online contest. The grand prize winner will sign a one-day contract with a member of the team's front office on Tuesday, March 31 prior to the Blue Jackets game against the Nashville Predators.
