Blue Jackets Foundation hosts golf fundraiser

by Rob Mixer / Columbus Blue Jackets

It was another beautiful day at the Double Eagle Club in Galena for the Blue Jackets Foundation Golf Classic.

On the eve of the 2013-14 NHL season and a day after the team concluded its training camp, Blue Jackets players, coaches and staff gathered at one of the nation’s premier golf facilities for a day of golf, laughs and raising money for the foundation – and the fundraising got started early.

The players and participants are “drafted” into foursomes as part of a live auction in the main dining room, and this year, there was a heated competition for the No. 1 pick, which translates into picking scratch golfer James Wisniewski. The top pick went for $3,500, and nearly $24,000 was raised as part of the player draft. This year’s top picks? John Davidson, Jody Shelley, Brandon Dubinsky, Todd Richards, Wisniewski and Jarmo Kekalainen. At the end of the day, that top selection proved valuable: Wisniewski’s group took home the title with a winning score of 102 (-44) in the “shamble” format to cap off a great day on the golf course, benefiting local youth hockey and the foundation.

We’ve assembled the best behind-the-scenes photos in this photo gallery, as well as a video recapping all the day’s events. Thanks to all the Double Eagle staff, the many volunteers and participants for making another memorable installment in the history of this great event.
