by Staff Writer / Columbus Blue Jackets

COLUMBUS, OHIO – Earlier this evening during the Blue Jackets vs. Dallas Stars contest, the Columbus Blue Jackets Foundation announced the donation of a record-high total of $292,500 in grants and a season-long contribution of more than $5,000 in autographed merchandise. The grants were awarded to several local non-profit organizations that serve the Foundation's main pillars of giving: pediatric cancer; education; children's health and safety; and the development of youth and amateur hockey. Since its inception seven years ago, the Foundation has awarded over $1.5 million in community grants and has built an endowment of nearly $500,000.

In addition to the Foundation’s annual fundraising events and ongoing programs, this year’s record total was reached with the help of several players (current Blue Jackets Manny Malhotra, Adam Foote, Sergei Fedorov, Dan Fritsche, Jody Shelley, Nikolai Zherdev, Fredrik Modin, and former Jacket Anson Carter) who donated nearly $100,000 in support of the Foundation's efforts to expose underserved youth to the game of hockey.
