Blue Jackets Face Tough Test against Mighty Montreal

by Jeff Rimer / Columbus Blue Jackets

November 7

In the words of Blue Jackets coach Ken Hitchcock tonight's opponent the Montreal Canadiens are the "best team" to play in our building this season. Indeed Montreal, the defending Eastern Conference regular season champions are my pick this season to come out of the East next spring in the Stanley Cup final simply because they are better than last season with the additions of Alex Tanguay and Robert Lang.

The Jackets who shut out the Canadiens 3-0 behind Pascal Leclaire last season in Montreal will need a big effort tonight against the "Flying Frenchman" their moniker incidentally for many years. Steve Mason will go again tonight and should be more at ease in his second NHL start after what looked like opening night jitters in his NHL debut but still a solid effort nontheless.

Rusty Klesla skated prior to the morning skate today and according to coach Hitchcock another days rest and he might play tomorrow night at Nationwide against the Calgary Flames.

A couple of other notes... Alexandre Picard cleared waivers and as I write this remains with the Jackets ... for all you Jody Shelly fans... his lovely wife Mandy gave birth to the couples first child a bouncing baby boy... Owen William Shelly. The younger enforcer weighed in at six-pounds 12-ounces! Mom and baby are doing well... Don't know about Jody!! Just kidding we exchanged texts this morning and dad is really excited!
