COLUMBUS, OHIO – The Columbus Blue Jackets have extended their agreement with the Springfield Falcons for the club to serve as the organization’s American Hockey League affiliate through the 2015-16 season with an option for two additional years, Blue Jackets General Manager Jarmo Kekalainen announced today.

“The affiliation between the Blue Jackets and Springfield Falcons has been a successful and rewarding one for both clubs and we’re pleased that the relationship will continue,” said Blue Jackets Assistant General Manager Chris MacFarland, who oversees hockey operations for the club’s affiliates. “The Falcons organization, under the leadership of Sarah Pompea, has been tremendous to work with and we look forward to having our prospects continue to grow and develop in Springfield.”

The Springfield Falcons are entering their 21st AHL season and have served as the AHL affiliate of the Blue Jackets since 2010-11. In 2012-13, the Falcons posted a 45-22-9 (99 pts.) record and captured the Northeast Division title. In 2013-14, the club captured its second-straight Northeast Division title, hit the 100-point mark for the second time in franchise history and set a new club mark for wins with a record of 47-23-6 (100 pts.).

“We are excited to continue our affiliation and strong relationship with the Columbus organization,” said Falcons President Sarah Pompea. “The extension further affirms our continued commitment to the Greater Springfield community. Columbus has been a great partner and we look forward to having continued success with them both on and off the ice.”

The AHL has been a part of the Greater Springfield area dating back to 1936 and the Springfield Indians. In the spring of 1994, the Indians franchise was sold and moved to Worcester, Mass., and Springfield was awarded an expansion franchise in May of 1994. The Falcons play their home games in the 6,789-seat MassMutual Center.

Full and partial season tickets for the Blue Jackets’ 2014-15 campaign are currently available for purchase. Individual game tickets for all home games at Nationwide Arena are on sale now.
