Blue Jackets claim defenseman Kevin Connauton on waivers from Dallas Stars, assign Frederic St-Denis to Springfield (AHL)

COLUMBUS, OHIO - The Columbus Blue Jackets have claimed defenseman Kevin Connauton off waivers from the Dallas Stars and assigned defenseman Frederic St-Denis to the American Hockey League’s Springfield Falcons, club General Manager Jarmo Kekalainen announced today.

Connauton (pronounced kuh-NAW-tuhn) has registered one goal and nine assists for 10 points with 22 penalty minutes in 44 career NHL games, all during the past two seasons with the Stars. He has collected 0-2-2 with six penalty minutes and is +4 in eight games this season. In 2013-14, he notched 1-7-8 and 16 penalty minutes in 36 games with Dallas and added 0-1-1 and 23 penalty minutes in six AHL games with the Texas Stars.

Connauton, 24, was Vancouver’s third pick, 83rd overall, in the 2009 NHL Draft. He has registered 33-55-88 and 205 penalty minutes in 221 career AHL games with Texas, Chicago and Manitoba since making his professional debut in 2010-11. The 6-2, 200-pound native of Edmonton, Alberta played one season at Western Michigan University, collecting 7-11-18 and 44 penalty minutes in 40 games in 2008-09. He spent the 2009-10 season with the Western Hockey League’s Vancouver Giants, where he racked up 24-48-72 and 107 penalty minutes in 69 outings and earned WHL West First All-Star Team and Canadian Major Junior All-Rookie Team honors.

St-Denis, 28, was recalled by the Blue Jackets on November 3 and picked up 0-1-1 and logged 13:17 TOI in four games with the club. The Greenfield Park, Quebec native has registered 1-3-4, 10 penalty minutes and is +2 in 21 career NHL games with the Blue Jackets and Montreal Canadiens. He has also collected 28-87-115, 156 penalty minutes and is +42 in 329 career AHL games.
