COLUMBUS, OHIO – The Columbus Blue Jackets are bringing the fun and excitement of the game of hockey to cities across Ohio for the sixth consecutive year with the Blue Jackets Breakaway Tour 2006, presented by Huntington, Interstate Gas Supply, FSN Ohio, ThisWeek Community Newspapers and the Blue Jackets Radio Network. The statewide, interactive tour will visit more than 24 cities across the state over a five-month period beginning Saturday, Apr. 29 with Kidfest 2006 at Ohio University in Athens from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.

The Blue Jackets and members of their 27-station radio network are teaming up to present Blue Jackets Breakaway 2006, the ultimate family experience that offers something for sports fans of all ages. It is a “hockey carnival” that includes street hockey games, Blue Jackets inflatable attractions including the slap shot challenge, the Huntington Hockey To Go truck and a traveling team store that features the latest in official team merchandise. Breakaway events also feature appearances by Blue Jackets radio and television broadcasters, the team’s popular mascot Stinger along with the Blue Jackets Ticketing and Fan Development staffs.

Among the Blue Jackets Radio Network affiliates supporting local Breakaway events are: WATH (Athens), WONE (Dayton), WQCT (Bryan), WCLT (Newark), WFIN (Findlay), WLOH (Lancaster), WHIZ (Zanesville), WBEX (Chillicothe), WQEL (Bucyrus), WMOA/WJAW (Marietta), WMRN (Marion) and WEOL (Elyria).

All Breakaway attendees can pick up a complimentary gift bag and have the opportunity to register to win prizes including autographed memorabilia, game tickets, team merchandise and more. At the end of the tour, all guests who have registered throughout the summer will be eligible to win four tickets to the Blue Jackets 2006-07 home opener and an overnight stay at the Crowne Plaza hotel. New this year, kids (ages 15 and under) can register to be a Breakaway Tour All-Star where one lucky winner per stop will be offered the chance to play in a street hockey game at Nationwide Arena before a 2006-07 Blue Jackets pre-season home game.

Since its inception in 2001, the Blue Jackets Breakaway Tour has participated in over 150 festivals, fairs, conventions and other family-oriented events across Ohio and West Virginia. The events have drawn crowds of over 1.4 million people during that time.
