COLUMBUS, OHIO -- The Columbus Blue Jackets have activated forward Sonny Milano off the Injured Non-Roster list and assigned him to the Ontario Hockey League’s Plymouth Whalers, club General Manager Jarmo Kekalainen announced today. Milano, who was injured at the NHL Prospects Tournament in September, is expected to make his OHL debut with the Whalers tonight against the Mississauga Steelheads.
Milano, 18, spent the past two seasons with the United States National Team Development Program in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Last season, he recorded 24 goals and 48 assists for 72 points in 50 games played for the USNDP Juniors (USHL).
Columbus’ first pick, 16th overall, at the 2014 NHL Draft, the Massapequa, New York native won gold with Team USA at the 2014 IIHF U18 Championships, recording 3-7-10 in seven tournament appearances. He also helped the Americans capture bronze at the 2013 World U17 Hockey Challenge, registering 4-6-10 in six games.
