The Columbus Blue Jackets have assigned defenseman Filip Novak to the Syracuse Crunch, the club’s American Hockey League affiliate, club President and General Manager Doug MacLean announced Thursday.
Novak, 24, was recalled from Syracuse on November 26 and made his Blue Jackets debut at Colorado on Tuesday. He earned a +1 plus/minus rating in Columbus’ 3-0 win. He has tallied 1-11-12 and 41 penalty minutes in 20 games with the Crunch this season and was among the AHL’s top scoring defensemen at the time of his recall. The Ceske Budejovice, Czech Republic, native was the New York Rangers’ first pick, 64th overall, in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft. He has registered four penalty minutes in 12 career NHL games, including 11 with the Ottawa Senators in 2005-06. He has 20-84-104 and 264 penalty minutes 212 career AHL games.
The Blue Jackets return to action on Saturday when they visit the St. Louis Blues. Game time is 8 p.m. ET with live coverage on FSN Ohio beginning with the IceBreaker pre-game show at 7:30 p.m. Coverage also includes the Blue Jackets Ice Cap post-game show immediately following the game.
