Blue Jackets Assign Goertzen to Syracuse

The Columbus Blue Jackets have re-assigned forward Steven Goertzen to the Syracuse Crunch, their American Hockey League affiliate, club President and General Manager Doug MacLean announced today.

Goertzen, 21, has appeared in 31 games this season split between Columbus and Syracuse. In 23 NHL contests he’s posted 24 penalty minutes and 14 shots on goal. Goertzen has recorded 1-1-2 with 11 penalty minutes in eight games with Syracuse. He made his NHL debut with 9:55 of ice time on October 21 when the Blue Jackets defeated the San Jose Sharks. A seventh round selection by the Blue Jackets in the 2002 Entry Draft, Goertzen made his professional debut last season with 2-7-9 and 100 penalty minutes in 57 games with Syracuse.

The Blue Jackets return to action on Tuesday night at the Detroit Red Wings. Game time is set for 7 p.m., with FSN Ohio's Ice Breaker pregame show starting at 6:30 p.m. The game will also be broadcast live on the Blue Jackets Radio Network and flagship stations WBNS-AM Sports Radio 1460 the Fan and WWCD-FM, CD101.
