COLUMBUS, OHIO -- The Columbus Blue Jackets have assigned forward Sonny Milano from the Ontario Hockey League’s Plymouth Whalers to the American Hockey League’s Springfield Falcons, club General Manager Jarmo Kekalainen announced today.
Milano, 18, led Plymouth in scoring with 22 goals and 46 assists for 68 points and added 24 penalty minutes in 50 games in 2014-15, his first season in the OHL. He spent the previous two campaigns with the United States National Team Development Program in Ann Arbor, Michigan, recording 14-25-39 in 25 games played for the USNDP Juniors (USHL) in 2013-14.
Columbus’ first pick, 16th overall, at the 2014 NHL Draft held at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Milano was tied for second on Team USA in points with 2-2-4 in five tournament appearances at the 2015 IIHF World Junior Championships. The Massapequa, New York native won a gold medal with Team USA at the 2014 IIHF U18 Championships, collecting 3-7-10 in seven games. He also helped the Americans capture bronze at the 2013 World U17 Hockey Challenge, registering 4-6-10 in six games.
