COLUMBUS, OHIO -- The Columbus Blue Jackets have activated forward Brian Gibbons off Injured Reserve and assigned him to the American Hockey League’s Springfield Falcons, club General Manager Jarmo Kekalainen announced today. Gibbons missed the first three games of the regular season with a lower body injury.
Gibbons, 26, joined the Blue Jackets in July after spending the past three seasons in the Pittsburgh Penguins organization. The center tallied five goals and seven assists for 12 points with six penalty minutes and a +5 plus/minus rating in 41 games with Pittsburgh in 2013-14. He has also collected 30-60-90 in 168 appearances with the American Hockey League’s Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.
Originally signed as a free agent by Pittsburgh on Apr. 4, 2011, the Braintree, Massachusetts native won a NCAA title with Boston College in 2008 and 2010. In 160 career collegiate games, Gibbons recorded 56-108-164 and a +82 rating.
The Blue Jackets return to action on Friday when they host the Calgary Flames at Nationwide Arena. Game time is 7 p.m. ET.
