COLUMBUS, OHIO — The Columbus Blue Jackets and National Hockey League announced the 2007-08 regular season schedule today and the Blue Jackets will open their seventh National Hockey League season at Nationwide Arena on Friday, October 5, against the defending Stanley Cup champion Anaheim Ducks. Game time is set for 7 p.m. The contest will mark the fifth time in seven seasons the Jackets have opened the campaign at home and the first in which it has faced off against the reigning Stanley Cup champions.
The NHL schedule for 2007-08 features a continued emphasis on division rivalries as each team will play eight games against its division foes, four games against its 10 non-division conference rivals and 10 inter-conference games. As members of the Western Conference's Central Division, the Blue Jackets will play Chicago, Detroit, Nashville and St. Louis eight times and every other Western Conference team four times. Columbus will face the Eastern Conference's Southeast Division teams – Atlanta, Carolina, Florida, Tampa Bay and Washington – at home and Northeast Division teams — Boston, Buffalo, Montreal, Ottawa and Toronto — on the road. Columbus will not play New Jersey, New York Islanders, New York Rangers, Philadelphia and Pittsburgh of the Atlantic Division.
The Blue Jackets' schedule features 41 home and 41 away games, spans 185 days and concludes with an April 6 game against the St. Louis Blues at Nationwide Arena. The club will play 41 of its 82 games on Friday, Saturday or Sunday, including 21 of its 41 home games (Friday – 6, Saturday – 7, Sunday – 8). All home games are scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. except for the following – Oct. 21 vs. Vancouver (5 p.m.), Oct. 27 vs. San Jose (5 p.m.), Nov. 4 vs. St. Louis (5 p.m.), Nov. 18 vs. Detroit (5 p.m.), Dec. 23 vs. Nashville (5 p.m.), Dec. 31 vs. Edmonton (6 p.m.), Feb. 10 vs. Los Angeles (6 p.m.), Mar. 9 vs. Tampa Bay (3 p.m.), Mar. 16 vs. Detroit (3 p.m.) and Apr. 6 vs. St. Louis (3 p.m.).
The Dec. 31 game vs. Edmonton marks the sixth time in seven seasons that Columbus has played a home game on New Year's Eve game. Game time is set for 6 p.m. The Blue Jackets play a season-high five consecutive games at home on two occasions. The club will host Dallas, Colorado, Minnesota, Anaheim and Colorado again between December 3-12 and take on Edmonton, Tampa Bay, Chicago, Detroit and Calgary between March 7-18. Columbus' longest road trip features five games between February 15-23 and includes stops at Detroit, St. Louis, Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal.
Individual game tickets for 2007-08 REGULAR SEASON home games will go on sale at 10 a.m. on Saturday, September 15. Tickets will be on sale at the Nationwide Arena Ticket Office, The Blueline Team Stores at Chiller Easton, Chiller Dublin, Chiller North and The Mall at Tuttle Crossing, as well as all Ticketmaster Ticket Centers. The club also announced its pre-season schedule, which will include four home and three road games. The Blue Jackets will open play at home on Sunday, September 16 against the Nashville Predators. Columbus will also host the Chicago Blackhawks (Tuesday, September 18), Buffalo Sabres (Sunday, September 23) and Carolina Hurricanes (Thursday, September 27) in pre-season action at Nationwide Arena.
