The Columbus Blue Jackets and National Hockey League announced the 2006-07 regular season schedule
)Wednesday and the Blue Jackets will open their sixth National Hockey League season at Nationwide Arena on Friday, Oct. 6, against the Vancouver Canucks. Game time is set for 7 p.m. The contest will mark the fourth time in six seasons the Jackets have opened their season at home.
The Blue Jackets' schedule features 41 home and 41 away games, spans 164 days and concludes with an Apr. 7 game against the Anaheim Ducks at Nationwide Arena. The club will play 47 of its 82 games on Friday, Saturday or Sunday, including 23 of its 41 home games (Friday – 11, Saturday – 5, Sunday – 7). All home games are scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. Three of the Sunday games – Dec. 10 vs. Ottawa, Feb. 18 vs. Montreal and Feb. 25 vs. Nashville – will begin at 6 p.m. while two – Mar. 25 vs. St. Louis and Apr. 1 vs. Detroit – will begin at 12:30 p.m. The Feb. 11 contest vs. Chicago will begin at 3:30 p.m.
The NHL schedule for 2006-07 features a continued emphasis on division rivalries as each team will play eight games against its division foes, four games against its 10 non-division conference rivals and 10 inter-conference games. As members of the Western Conference's Central Division, the Blue Jackets will play Chicago, Detroit, Nashville and St. Louis eight times and every other Western Conference team four times. Columbus will face the Eastern Conference's Northeast Division teams – Boston, Buffalo, Montreal, Ottawa and Toronto – at home and Atlantic Division teams – New Jersey, NY Islanders, NY Rangers, Philadelphia and Pittsburgh – on the road. Columbus will not play Atlanta, Carolina, Florida, Tampa Bay and Washington of the Southeast Division this season.
The Dec. 31 game vs. Chicago marks the return of the New Yearâ€™s Eve game in Columbus. It is the fifth time in six years the Blue Jackets will play a home game on New Yearâ€™s Eve. Game time is set for 7 p.m. The club will also host its longest homestand in franchise history beginning Feb. 6 vs. Phoenix and continue with games on Feb. 8 vs. Calgary, Feb. 11 vs. Chicago, Feb. 14 vs. St. Louis, Feb. 16 vs. San Jose and finish on Feb. 18 vs. Montreal.
Individual game tickets to Blue Jackets pre-season games are ON SALE NOW, while individual game regular season tickets will go on sale at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 9. The club also announced its pre-season schedule, which will include four home and three road games. The Blue Jackets will open play at home on Sunday, Sept. 17, against the Nashville Predators. Columbus will also host the Buffalo Sabres (Tuesday, Sept. 19), Chicago Blackhawks (Friday, Sept. 22) and the defending Stanley Cup Champion Carolina Hurricanes (Sunday, Sept. 24) in pre-season action at Nationwide Arena.
