The Blue Jackets, after their longest break between games since early December, get back into action as they host the San Jose Sharks at Nationwide tonight and will attempt to extend their modest winning streak to three games. The Sharks have won nine straight on the road, they have the best road record in the National Hockey League and are second to the Capitals in Points with 88 (San Jose-87).
Steve Mason, who has won back-to-back starts for the first time since mid-October, will make his third straight start. Mason has looked confident in each of his two wins over Dallas and Buffalo, stopping 50 of 51 shots. Tonight will be a tough test for him and the Jackets, who face without question the top scoring line in hockey... Thornton, Heatley, and Marleau.
It's expected Fedor Tyutin and Derek Dorsett will return to the lineup tonight, but Anton Stralman, Freddie Modin and Mike Commodore will not play against the Sharks.
Interim Head Coach Claude Noel in addressing the media after today's optional skate, had high praise for the Sharks...saying, "San Jose is a hard working team, they have something we want, and they are a smart team that is well coached." What he failed to say, but certainly is understood is the Sharks are a very, very talented team that in recent playoff years has greatly underachieved! I don't think it will happen this spring, as they appear to me to be the class of the Western Conference... but we will see!
