COLUMBUS, OHIO – The Columbus Blue Jackets have extended their agreement with the Springfield Falcons for the club to serve as the organization's American Hockey League affiliate through the 2011-12 season, Blue Jackets Assistant General Manager Chris MacFarland and Falcons President and General Manager Bruce Landon announced December 21.

"We are very happy to be able to announce an extension of our affiliation with Springfield today," said MacFarland, who oversees the club's hockey operations for the Blue Jackets. "We look forward to having our prospects continue their development and being a part of the Falcons family."

The Springfield Falcons are currently in their 17th AHL season. The AHL has been a part of the Greater Springfield area dating back to 1936 and the Springfield Indians. In the spring of 1994, the Springfield Indians franchise was sold and moved to Worcester, Mass., and Springfield was awarded an expansion franchise in May of 1994. The Falcons play their home games in the 6,789-seat MassMutual Center.

"We are excited to continue our strong relationship with the Columbus Blue Jackets," Landon said. "From day one, Scott (Howson) and Chris (MacFarland) have shown a commitment to put a winning product on the ice in Springfield and we look forward to continued success moving forward."
