COLUMBUS, OHIO – In response to the critical need for blood donations in Ohio and across the country, the Columbus Blue Jackets and OhioHealth are teaming up with the American Red Cross for the “Drive to Opening Night” blood drive at Nationwide Arena (inside the Front St. doors) on Tuesday, September 13 from 3-9 p.m. The blood drive coincides with the first day of the Blue Jackets Training Camp, which includes a team scrimmage that will be open to the public free of charge beginning at 6 p.m. on the main ice at Nationwide Arena.

The “Drive to Opening Night” blood drive marks the beginning of the month-long “Hockey: It’s in Your Blood” campaign with the American Red Cross to increase blood donation across 27 Ohio counties. Every two seconds, someone in America needs blood, and in Central Ohio alone, the Red Cross must collect nearly 700 pints of blood each day to support patients in need.

Eligible donors must be at least 17 years of age, weigh 110 pounds and be in general good health. The first 100 blood donors will receive a pair of tickets to a Blue Jackets pre-season game. In addition, all presenting donors will be automatically registered to win one of four Columbus Blue Jackets/OhioHealth Prize Packs which include a pair of Blue Jackets game tickets, autographed team memorabilia, Chiller ice skating passes and other items provided by OhioHealth. Fans who wish to donate blood but cannot attend the drive at Nationwide Arena may still donate at participating locations in the Central Ohio region from September 13 through October 7 and will also be entered in to the weekly prize pack drawing.

To schedule an appointment, call 1-(800)-GIVE-LIFE or visit the Central Ohio Region’s Web site at www.BloodSavesLives.org. Although appointments are strongly recommended, walk-up donors are welcome. More information about OhioHealth can be found at www.ohiohealth.com.

Tickets to all Blue Jackets regular season games go on sale Friday, September 16 at 10 a.m. Tickets may be purchased at the Nationwide Arena Ticket Office, the Blue Jackets Zones at Chiller Dublin, Chiller Easton, Chiller North, all Ticketmaster ticket centers, by phone at (614) 431-3600 or via the internet at www.BlueJackets.com and ticketmaster.com. For information on full season tickets starting as low as $13 per game, mini-season ticket plans or group tickets, call (800) NHL-COLS.
