Blue Jackets and OhioHealth Announce Blood Drive Set for Tuesday, Sept. 14 at Nationwide Arena

by Staff Writer / Columbus Blue Jackets
For the second consecutive year, the Columbus Blue Jackets and OhioHealth are teaming up with the American Red Cross for the “It’s Time to Get in the Game…Give the Gift of Life” blood drive at Nationwide Arena (inside the Front St. doors) on Thursday, Sept. 14 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The blood drive falls within the month-long campaign with the American Red Cross to increase blood donation across 27 Ohio counties. Every two seconds, someone in America needs blood, and in Central Ohio alone, the Red Cross must collect nearly 650 pints of blood each day to support patients in need.

The first 100 blood donors will receive a pair of tickets to a Blue Jackets pre-season game. In addition, all presenting donors will be automatically registered to win one of four Columbus Blue Jackets/OhioHealth Prize Packs which include a pair of Blue Jackets pre-season game tickets, autographed team memorabilia, and a gift certificate for a complimentary massage at the OhioHealth McConnell Heart Health Center. Fans that wish to donate blood but cannot attend the drive at Nationwide Arena may still donate at participating locations in the Central Ohio region from Sept. 7 - Oct. 6 and will also be entered in to the weekly prize pack drawing.

To schedule an appointment, call 1-(800)-GIVE-LIFE or visit the Central Ohio Region’s Web site at www.BloodSavesLives.org. Eligible donors must be at least 17 years of age, weigh 110 pounds and be in general good health. Although appointments are strongly recommended, walk-up donors are welcome. More information about OhioHealth can be found at www.ohiohealth.com.

Donors and supporters of the Red Cross also can purchase discount tickets to a special “Red Cross Night” hockey game on Oct. 9. A $5 proceed of each $25 ticket sold will benefit the American Red Cross of Greater Columbus. For more information, call the American Red Cross of Greater Columbus (614) 253-2740.
