COLUMBUS, OHIO – The Columbus Blue Jackets added forward Dan Fritsche to the roster on emergency recall from the Syracuse Crunch, the club's American Hockey League affiliate, Blue Jackets President and General Manager Doug MacLean announced today.  The club also announced that forward Mike Rupp will be sidelined indefinitely due to an irregular heartbeat.  Fritsche is expected to join the Blue Jackets in time for tonight's game at Nationwide Arena vs. the Edmonton Oilers.

Fritsche, 20, began the season with the Blue Jackets and registered three goals and five assists for eight points with 18 penalty minutes in 45 games.  He recorded the first multi-point game of his career on opening night when he scored two goals at Washington on October 5.  Fritsche has tallied 2-3-5 with 10 penalty minutes and a +4 plus/minus rating in 14 AHL games during two stints with the Crunch this season.   Since he was assigned to Syracuse on Jan. 30, the Crunch has compiled a 12-3-2-1 record to move into second place in the AHL Western Conference’s North Division.

A second round selection, 46th overall, by the Blue Jackets at the 2003 NHL Entry Draft, Fritsche has recorded 4-5-9 in 64 career NHL games and 4-3-7 with 12 penalty minutes in 18 career AHL contests.  A native of Parma, Ohio, he represented Team USA at the 2004 and 2005 World Junior Championships, winning a gold medal in 2004 and scoring 5-6-11 in 13 games during the two tournaments.  In 2004-05, he helped the London Knights capture the Memorial Cup championship.

Rupp has registered 4-2-6 and 58 penalty minutes in 40 games with the Blue Jackets this season, including a goal in Thursday's 5-4 win over Phoenix.  The Cleveland native, who missed 12 games earlier this season due to a broken foot, has 15-11-26 and 126 penalty minutes in 123 career NHL games.

Tonight's game between the Blue Jackets and Oilers at Nationwide Arena is set for a 7 p.m. ET start with FSN Ohio's Ice Breaker pre-game show starting at 6:30 p.m.  The game will also be broadcast live on the Blue Jackets Radio Network and flagship stations WBNS-AM Sports Radio 1460 the Fan and WWCD-FM, CD101.
