COLUMBUS, OHIO -- The Columbus Blue Jackets have activated left wing Matt Calvert off Injured Reserve and assigned center Sean Collins to the American Hockey League’s Springfield Falcons, club General Manager Jarmo Kekalainen announced today.
Calvert, 24, tallied one goal and one assist for two points with six penalty minutes in seven games this season prior to missing the past four games due to an upper body injury. The Brandon, Manitoba native was Columbus’ fifth pick, 127th overall, in the 2008 NHL Draft and has registered 30-35-65 and 119 penalty minutes in 160 career NHL games. In 2013-14, he collected 9-15-24 and 53 penalty minutes in 56 games, setting career highs in assists, points and penalty minutes. He added 2-2-4 and four penalty minutes in six Stanley Cup playoff games.
Collins, 25, was recalled by Columbus on October 30 and was held without a point in two games with the club. He has collected 1-5-6 and two penalty minutes with an even plus/minus rating in eight games with Springfield this season. Columbus’ ninth pick, 187th overall, in the 2008 NHL Draft, he has registered 0-1-1, six penalty minutes and is -2 in 13 career NHL games. He has also notched 29-54-83, 60 penalty minutes and is +27 in 147 career AHL games, including 16-25-41, 34 penalty minutes and was +9 in 67 games last season.
