Blue Jackets defenseman has missed 27 games with an upper body injury

The Columbus Blue Jackets have activated defenseman Markus Nutivaara off Injured Reserve, club General Manager and Alternate Governor Jarmo Kekalainen announced today.

Nutivaara, 25, has missed the past 27 games after originally suffering an upper body injury on November 5 vs. the Vegas Golden Knights. He has recorded two goals and two penalty minutes with 14 shots in 10 outings this season. The Oulu, Finland native has registered 16-37-53 with 28 penalty minutes and a +22 plus/minus rating in 217 career NHL games since making his league debut in 2016-17.

The 6-1, 187-pound blueliner tallied 5-16-21 with six penalty minutes and a +3 plus/minus rating in 80 outings with Columbus in 2018-19. He recorded career highs in assists (tied), shots (99), time on ice (17:41) and games played. He was selected by the Blue Jackets in the seventh round, 189th overall, at the 2015 NHL Draft.

The Blue Jackets return to action on Monday when they visit the Los Angeles Kings. Game time from STAPLES Center is 10:30 p.m. ET.
