COLUMBUS, OHIO - The Columbus Blue Jackets have activated defenseman James Wisniewski off Injured Reserve and placed defenseman Ryan Murray on Injured Reserve retroactive to November 1, club General Manager Jarmo Kekalainen announced today. Murray is listed as day-to-day after re-aggravating a knee injury that caused him to miss the first seven games of the season.

Wisniewski, who missed the past three games due to a broken finger, has collected three assists and six penalty minutes, while averaging 21:50 TOI per game in nine outings this season. The 30-year-old blueliner racked up 7-44-51 and 61 penalty minutes in 75 games in 2013-14, setting club records for points and assists by a defenseman and matching his career high in points set with Montreal and the New York Islanders in 2010-11.

The Canton, Michigan native ranked fourth in assists and was tied for eighth among all NHL defensemen in scoring last season. In 491 career NHL games, he has tallied 45-198-243 and 421 penalty minutes with the Blue Jackets, Canadiens, Islanders, Ducks and Blackhawks. He was Chicago’s fifth pick, 156th overall, in the 2002 NHL Draft.

Murray, 21, has collected two penalty minutes in four games this season. As a rookie in 2013-14, he picked up 4-17-21 with 10 penalty minutes and a +4 plus/minus rating in 66 games. The White City, Saskatchewan native was Columbus’ first pick, second overall, in the 2012 NHL Draft.

The Blue Jackets return to action on Friday when they visit the Carolina Hurricanes. Game time from PNC Arena is 7 p.m. ET. Live coverage on FOX Sports Ohio begins with the Blue Jackets Live pre-game show at 6:30 p.m. The game will also be broadcast live on the Scioto Downs Blue Jackets Radio Network, including flagship station Sports Radio 97.1 The Fan, and online at BlueJackets.com.
