- The Columbus Blue Jackets have activated defenseman Fedor Tyutin
off Injured Reserve and assigned left wing Kerby Rychel
to the American Hockey League's Springfield Falcons, club General Manager Jarmo Kekalainen announced today.
Tyutin, 31, who missed the past 13 games due to a sprained knee suffered November 14 at Philadelphia
, has recorded two assists and six penalty minutes in 16 games this season. He has collected 50-185-235 with 448 penalty minutes in 691 career NHL games with the Blue Jackets and New York Rangers.
The Izhevsk, Russia native is the franchise leader among defensemen in points and assists, while ranking second to Rostislav Klesla in goals and games played with 35-134-169 and 289 penalty minutes in 441 games since joining the Blue Jackets prior to the 2008-09 season via trade from the Rangers
. He registered 4-22-26 with 44 penalty minutes in 69 games played in 2013-14.
Rychel, 20, made his NHL debut on November 29 at Nashville
and picked up three assists and two penalty minutes in five games with the Blue Jackets. The club's second first round pick, 19th overall, in the 2013 NHL Draft
, he registered his first NHL point on December 1 vs. Florida and his first career multi-point game (0-2-2) on December 4 at Florida. The Torrance, California native has also recorded 6-7-13 and 30 penalty minutes in 23 outings with Springfield. Rychel spent the past four seasons in the Ontario Hockey League, tallying 122-150-272 and 264 penalty minutes in 256 games with Mississauga, Windsor and Guelph.
