Blue Jackets activate David Savard, place Sergei Bobrovsky on injured reserve, add Anton Forsberg to roster on emergency recall

COLUMBUS, OHIO --- The Columbus Blue Jackets have activated David Savard off Injured Reserve and placed goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky on Injured Reserve retroactive to December 31, club General Manager Jarmo Kekalainen announced today.  Columbus has also added goaltender Anton Forsberg to the roster on emergency recall from Cleveland’s Lake Erie Monsters, the club’s American Hockey League affiliate.

Savard, 25, has missed the past six games after suffering an ankle injury on December 15 at Dallas.  He has registered 0-13-13 and 29 penalty minutes in 33 games with the Blue Jackets this season.  A native of St. Hyacinthe, Quebec, he has posted 18-56-74 and 144 penalty minutes in 220 career NHL games with the Blue Jackets.  Savard was Columbus’ third pick, 94th overall, in the 2009 NHL Draft.

Bobrovsky, 27, who has missed the past 10 games after suffering a groin strain on December 8 vs. Los Angeles, re-aggravated the injury and is listed as day-to-day.  He is 11-12-1 with a 2.52 goals-against average, .916 save percentage and one shutout in 25 games this season.  The Novokuznetsk, Russia native has compiled a 136-83-25 record with a 2.51 goals-against average, .918 save percentage and 12 shutouts in 255 career NHL games with the Blue Jackets and Philadelphia Flyers.  Acquired from Philadelphia via trade on June 22, 2012, he has gone 94-60-15 with a 2.41 goals-against average, .922 save percentage and 12 shutouts in 172 appearances with Columbus and won the Vezina Trophy as the NHL’s top goaltender following the 2012-13 campaign.

Forsberg, 23, has posted a 12-6-2 record with a 2.60 goals-against average and a .900 save percentage in 21 games with Lake Erie this season.  He is seventh-T in the AHL in wins and has stopped 452-of-502 shots faced overall.  The Harnosand, Sweden native is 35-14-3 with a 2.17 goals-against average, .920 save percentage and three shutouts in 55 career AHL games.  He made 26 saves in a 3-2 loss at New Jersey in his NHL debut on November 1, 2014 at New Jersey and went 0-4-0 with a 4.69 goals against average and .866 save percentage in five games with the Jackets last season.  The club’s sixth pick, 188th overall, in the 2011 NHL Draft also compiled a 20-8-1 record with the Falcons, finishing third in the AHL in goals-against average (2.01) and fifth in save percentage (.927) in 2014-15.
