Blue Jackets Acquire Two Picks and D Taylor Ellington from Vancouver in Exchange for C Samuel Pahlsson

COLUMBUS, OHIO – The Columbus Blue Jackets have acquired two fourth round picks in the 2012 Entry Draft and defenseman Taylor Ellington from the Vancouver Canucks in exchange for center Samuel Pahlsson, club Executive Vice President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Scott Howson announced today. The Blue Jackets acquired Vancouver’s fourth round pick and the New York Islanders’ fourth round pick (previously acquired by Vancouver).

Taylor Ellington

Ellington, 23, was Vancouver’s second pick, 33rd overall, in the 2007 Entry Draft. He has registered seven goals and 15 assists for 22 points, 34 penalty minutes and is +3 in 55 games with the Kalamazoo Wings (ECHL) this season and also appeared in one game with the American Hockey League’s Chicago Wolves. He has tallied 2-3-5 and nine penalty minutes in 21 career AHL games, while notching 10-29-39 and 101 penalty minutes in 117 career ECHL games. Prior to his professional career, the Victoria, British Columbia native collected 14-52-66 and 371 penalty minutes in 287 games with the Everett Silvertips of the Western Hockey League.

Pahlsson, 34, tallied 2-9-11 and 22 penalty minutes in 61 games with the Blue Jackets this season. He joined the club as a free agent in July 2009 and collected 12-35-47 and 88 penalty minutes in 222 games with the club. In 779 career NHL games, he has registered 66-127-193 and 344 penalty minutes.

The Blue Jackets return to action Tuesday when the club hosts the Detroit Red Wings. Game time from Nationwide Arena is set for 7 p.m. ET.
