COLUMBUS, OHIO – The Columbus Blue Jackets have acquired left wing Scott Hartnell from the Philadelphia Flyers in exchange for left wing R.J. Umberger and a fourth round pick in the 2015 NHL Draft, club General Manager Jarmo Kekalainen announced today.

Hartnell, 32, has registered 250 goals and 287 assists for 537 points with 1,452 penalty minutes and a cumulative +65 plus/minus rating in 953 career NHL games with the Flyers and Nashville Predators. He has scored 87 power play and 48 game-winning goals, has 20 or more goals in seven of the last eight full NHL seasons, including a pair of 30-goal campaigns, and appeared in the 2012 All-Star Game.

Hartnell was Nashville’s first pick, sixth overall, in the 2000 NHL Draft. He made his NHL debut in 2000-01 and spent six seasons as a Predator, collecting 93-118-211 and 544 penalty minutes in 436 games from 2000-07. In his final two seasons as a Predator, he notched back-to-back 20-goal campaigns with 25-23-48 in 81 games in 2005-06 and 22-17-39 in 64 games in 2006-07. On June 18, 2007, he was acquired by Philadelphia with defenseman Kimmo Timonen from Nashville in exchange for a 2007 first round pick.
In seven seasons as a Flyer, Hartnell collected 157-169-326 and 908 penalty minutes in 517 games with five 20-goal, two 30-goal, two 60-point campaigns and one 50-point campaign. He registered his first 60-point season in 2008-09 with 30-30-60 and 143 penalty minutes in 82 games and tallied a career-high 37-30-67 with 136 penalty minutes in 82 games in 2011-12. Last season, he collected 20-32-52 and 103 penalty minutes in 78 games and added 0-3-3 and six penalty minutes in seven playoff games to raise his career totals in the Stanley Cup Playoffs to 19-28-47 and 146 penalty minutes in 91 games.
A native of Regina, Saskatchewan, Hartnell played two-plus seasons for the Western Hockey League’s Prince Albert Raiders, collecting 37-90-127 and 230 penalty minutes in 128 career games. He recorded 27-55-82 and 124 penalty minutes during his final WHL campaign in 1999-00.
Umberger, 32, tallied 120-130-250 and 200 penalty minutes in 445 games as a Blue Jacket, including 18-16-34 and 26 penalty minutes in 74 games in 2013-14. In 673 games with the Blue Jackets and Flyers, he has registered 169-197-366 and 278 penalty minutes.
