by Staff Writer / Columbus Blue Jackets

Jaroslav Balastik scored a goal and added an assist, while nearly adding the equalizing goal in the third period, but the Jackets were unable to erase a two-goal deficit, falling to the Nashville Predators, 3-2, at Gaylord Entertainment Center Nashville, Tenn. on Friday night.

Balastik, the Jackets’ ninth pick in the 2002 Entry Draft, assisted on the Jackets’ first goal of the game, feeding Aaron Johnson to tie the game at one at 16:41. The Predators had gone up 1-0 at 2:00, as Danny Markov scored on the power play.

The Predators’ Kimmo Timonen scored on the power-play to put Nashville up 2-1 at 12:34 of the second period and Yannic Perrault put the Predators up 3-1, scoring Nashville’s first even strength goal of the night at 1:22 of the final period.

Balastik answered later in the third, as he scored at 14:14 on assists from Mark Hartigan and Manny Malhotra. Balastik nearly tied the game later in the third period, but was robbed on a fantastic save by Brian Finley.

Marc Denis took the loss for the Jackets, stopping 30-of-33 shots.
