Back Here in Music City One Last Time

by Jeff Rimer / Columbus Blue Jackets

March 25

Here we go... the Blue Jackets look for their first victory here in Nashville since the third of April 2006! That was almost two years ago... since that night... the Jackets are winless in 7 here in Music City.

Coach Ken Hitchcock again commented on the need for the Blue Jackets to "win out" their remaining seven games to have any chance of making the playoffs... it's a tall order!!!

24-year-old Defenseman Clay Wilson will make his NHL debut tonight. Wilson who along with Aaron Rome was acquired from the Anaheim Ducks earlier in he season for Geoff Platt has been one of the better blueliners in the American Hockey League over the last several weeks according to scout for another team. Wilson is currently fourth in scoring among AHL Defenseman with 12 goals and 32 assists in 67 games. Hitch says Wilson will play the right side along with Dick Tarnstrom and will see some time on the Blue Jackets power play where obviously they can use some help... The Jackets are just three for their last 57... a miserable 5.2% over that stretch. Saturday night against the Red Wings they Blue Jackets went 0-for-5... with just one shot and gave up a shorthanded goal along the way!

Wilson's emergency recall was facilitated due to the fact Kris Russell is not yet ready to return from a groin injury and O-K Tollefsen is banged up with both a neck and back injury.

Today's game should be an interesting one... the Predators have had their own problems of late. The have lost six of their last seven at home... and as coach Barry Trotz told us this morning on the outside looking in as play gets underway tonight... they need the two points badly... if they want to climb back into the race. Nashville is currently 10th... four points back of the eighth and final playoff spot.

If the Jackets are not playoff bound... wouldn't it be niece to knock the Predators out of the playoffs. The two teams will play twice this week... The teams also meet Friday night at Nationwide.

Game time tonight is 8 p.m. Columbus time! Enjoy!
