A Mid-Summer Skate

by Bob McElligott / Columbus Blue Jackets

July 2

You wouldn't think it's nice to be inside, during this stretch of beautiful weather, but that's the case with development camp going on right now. It's fun to watch potential future Jackets giving it their all, in the Dispatch Ice Haus.

Several guys stand out... John Moore looks like he benefited immensely from his OHL experience. He was impressive in last year's camp and it is obvious he's ready to make a push to join the big club. Matt Calvert is another player who hopes to be here all season. He takes to heart the saying, practice like you play. First round pick Ryan Johansen is getting his chance to make a first impression, and it's a good one.

These young players will benefit greatly from their first experience in an NHL environment. After camp is over and the ice melted, it won't be long before many will be back for an even more important camp.

*Throughout the season, AAA will bring you the Broadcaster's Blogs - "Bobby Mac", "Davidge Dishes" and "Rimer Ramblings." The Columbus Blue Jackets radio and television analysts will try to keep you updated on all the season action through their blogs, especially when the Blue Jackets are on the road.
