COLUMBUS, OHIO – For the eighth consecutive year, the Ohio High School Athletic Association State Ice Hockey Semifinals and Championship games will be held at Nationwide Arena. The 2010 semifinals are slated for Saturday, March 13 at 10:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. with the final played at noon on Sunday, March 14. In addition, the Senior All-Star Game will be played at 9 a.m. Sunday in advance of the championship.
The 33rd Annual OHSAA state hockey tournament, which began with 83 teams, is down to its final four teams. The winners of each district - Brooklyn, Kent, Sylvania and Columbus - have advanced to the semifinals. Cleveland St. Ignatius will face Hunting Valley University School in the first semifinal game at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, followed by Sylvania Northview taking on Dublin Coffman at 1 p.m.
Dublin Coffman is making their first ever appearance in the state semifinals, while Sylvania Northview returns for the first time since 2006. Hunting Valley University School is the defending champions, while Cleveland St. Ignatius returns to for the first time since winning the state title in 2000.
For the third straight year, SportsTime Ohio will televise the championship game live to a statewide audience at noon on Sunday, Mar. 14. Neil Sika and John Mowat will handle the play-by-play and color commentary. The state title game will be replayed on Monday, March 15 at 7:30 p.m. on SportsTime Ohio.
