2008 NHL Entry Draft this Weekend at Scotiabank Place in Ottawa

COLUMBUS, OHIO – The Columbus Blue Jackets hold the rights to nine picks, including two in the first round, in the 2008 National Hockey League Entry Draft, which will be held at Scotiabank Place in Ottawa, Ontario. The first round of the draft will begin at 7 p.m. on Friday (televised live on VERSUS) with rounds 2-7 held Saturday beginning at 10 a.m. Below is a round by round look at the picks held by the Blue Jackets:

The 2008 Entry Draft will be Columbus' ninth since becoming a member of the NHL. The Club has selected the following players with their previous eight first round selections:

2006 (No. 6) Derick Brassard, Center

2007 (No. 7) Jakub Voracek, Right Wing

Draft Party: The Blue Jackets will host their annual Entry Draft Party on Friday, beginning at 7 p.m. at the Champps Americana located at Easton Town Center. Fans are invited to watch live television coverage of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft on VERSUS while Sports Radio 1460 The Fan broadcasts live from Champps from 7-9 p.m. Mark Wyant will anchor the broadcast with George Matthews and Bill Davidge providing analysis. Additional activities include appearances by former Blue Jackets’ draft picks Derick Brassard (6th overall, 2006), Tom Sestito (85th overall, 2006) and Derek Dorsett (189th overall, 2006), as well as Stinger and members of the Pepsi Power Patrol. Trivia games and a silent auction to benefit the Columbus Blue Jackets Foundation will also take place.
