10 Questions with ... Raffi Torres

by Rob Mixer / Columbus Blue Jackets

The Blue Jackets have added six new players to the roster via trade and free agency since the NHL Entry Draft in June. will ask these new players 10 questions to help YOU the fans get to know them better before the puck drops on the 2008-09 season.

We talked with winger Raffi Torres first: What were your first impressions about Columbus and the Blue Jackets after learning you had been traded?

RT: I was shocked, obviously. But at the same time, I was just looking forward to coming here. Are you excited to be here in Columbus after being in Edmonton for a while?

RT: For sure. It's a new start for me, and the past couple of years weren't that great. I'm ready for it, and we'll see how it goes.
What did you know about Columbus (the city) prior to coming here?

RT: I didn't know a whole lot about Columbus, to be honest. I've heard a lot about the (Ohio State) football team and how popular it is here. Other than that, not a whole lot.
Are you looking forward to playing with any specific people in Columbus?

RT: I played with Mike Peca in Edmonton, so I'm looking forward to that. I played juniors with (defenseman Rostislav Klesla) in Brampton. It's going to be fun to watch Rick Nash play every night, too. Describe your style of play.

RT: As a hockey player, I'm a gritty guy, I like to battle. Just dump the puck in and go get it. I like to get in your face and work hard, get in there and crash and bang. Of course, I like to score some goals occasionally, too. What is your favorite NHL arena?

RT: I've always liked playing in Dallas (American Airlines Center - pictured to the right).
When did you start playing hockey?

RT: Well, I started playing when I was eight years old. My older brother played, and that's how I got started.
How would your teammates describe your personality?

RT: Oh, gosh. I don't know. Hopefully, they see me as a good guy in the locker room, one that keeps everyone loose.
What are your hobbies, etc. during the off-season?

RT: As far as the off-season goes, I like to play golf. During the summer, I don't do much else (laughing). Dinner and a movie: downtown or at home? Why?

RT: Definitely out. I love to go out.

Thanks, Raffi and welcome to the Blue Jackets!
