The Blackhawks bent twice, but would not break as they withstood a pair of comeback attempts from the Carolina Hurricanes on Tuesday night. After seeing two-goal and one-goal leads disappear, Chicago pushed forward in the third period to earn a 6-4 victory at the United Center.
Mattias Janmark, Dominik Kubalik, Andrew Shaw, Alex DeBrincat (x2) and Patrick Kane all scored on the night. Kevin Lankinen stopped 30 shots to pick up his fourth win of the year.

"To me, the best part of today's game was the resiliency that we showed to stick with it and get the game back under control after they tied it 3-3 (early in the second)," head coach Jeremy Colliton said. "The back half of the second period, we were good again. We had another push and that's what you need to have against a team like them, you can't just defend and hold on for the last 40.
"Again in the third, I thought we were solid and big goal from Kaner, but then they tie it and again, really pleased with the response of the team after that. We know they're a good team and they've come back twice on us and you wonder how we're going to react, but I thought we handled it very well. Just proud of -- we just found a way to grit it out and a couple big plays at the end and great two points for us."

Kane lifts Blackhawks to 6-4 win over Hurricanes

Here are three takeaways from the Blackhawks' fourth win of the year:

WORKING CULTURE

The Blackhawks knew the road this season wouldn't be easy with a renewed focus on younger contributions and resetting the roster for the years to come, but in the past nine games, the previously-perceived rag-tag group has picked up at least a point in eight of those.
Against a Hurricanes team that had won five of their six games coming in, the Blackhawks picked up three points in the series, with a shootout loss on Tuesday and a win Thursday staving off a pair of comeback attempts -- the exact fashion in which the Blackhawks were able to squeeze a point themselves two days prior.
"These guys play so hard. It's really great," Kane said of the growing success. "Jeremy's setting the culture here where he wants the hard work and he wants guys skating hard and guys winning battles. I think a lot of these guys do that so well. That's something I can get better at, too. Especially lately, it's been a fun group. We've been pretty much in every game and battling, hanging around, whether it's good goaltending or timely scoring. Just trying to figure out our game and now it's like 'Ok, we're in these games, let's figure out how to win them.' Tonight was a good example.
"We've done a good job of battling each night, giving ourselves a chance to win," DeBrincat added. "We kind of took those first few games and threw them out. We knew we had better than that. I don't think we're a team that's going to beat other teams by skill, but we've been playing the right way, working hard, buying into the system and it's been working out well.
It might not be perfect yet, but the buy-in is exactly what Colliton wanted to see from his team this season as he continues to mold the roster into his style and vision for the way the organization and reach the top once again.
"From their perspective, the expectations on the group and what was said about them going into the season and we're missing some guys and all those things," he said. "It would be easy just to accept it and let the chips fall. I think our response has been 'We're going to work our way through it.' We talked about being relentless and determined and unselfish and making team decisions and I really have to give them a ton of credit for how they've done that. That's allowed us to be in games. When you have that mentality, you can compete and hang around even when you're not at your best. We've got to continue to do that."

FOUR FOR 88

Kane picked up the 14th four-point night of his career on Thursday against Carolina, scoring once and adding three assists in the victory.
His personal performance was highlighted by his third-period game-winner, skating fresh out of the penalty box and mustering a one-handed backhand shot in a one-on-one battle the other way, seeing Hurricanes defenseman Jaccob Slavin knock the puck into his own net after Kane's hearty individual effort.
"For our line, our first shift of the first and the second, we get scored on," he said of his unit allowing the opening two visiting goals on the night. "You should be more thinking about yourself and kind of how you let the team down a little bit and how you can get yourself back in the game and focus."
"I tried to get around him," Kane later said of his goal. "He did a pretty good job of shielding me off but I think he held me a little bit and there was going to be a penalty called on the play. To be honest, was just trying to get a shot there and maybe there's a rebound or something squirts free, but got lucky… Every now and then you need those lucky breaks and it's a good feeling."
The future Hall of Famer also made some history on the night, taking sole possession of sixth place on the all-time American scoring list with his 1,034th point with his first of the night. He now sits clear of Doug Weight's 1,033 mark with 1,037 to his name.

POWER-PLAY KUBY

Factoring into every goal in the opening frame, Dominik Kubalik posted the fourth three-point night of his career just 80 games in.
He was the setup man on the opening tally with a beautiful between-the-defender's-legs, cross-ice feed to Janmark, pounded home his own power-play tally minutes later with a blast off a deflected shot attempt and then added a secondary assist on Shaw's late-frame score. It's just the second time he's had more than a single power-play point in a contest, following up his two man-advantage tally outing in Florida on Jan. 19.
"Very nice to be on the scoring sheet again and get the feeling and confidence going again," said Kubalik, whose two power-play goals in Florida were his only two tallies on the year coming into the night. "It was really good. Our start was really good to be up 3-1, it was nice. Really happy that the power play is still going well, we've just got to stick with it."
After a slower goal-scoring start to the season, Kubalik has netted five points in total (1G, 4A) in his last two outings against the Hurricanes.
