After entering the third period with a tied game of 2-2, Taylor Raddysh and the Blackhawks retook the lead to defeat the Colorado Avalanche, 3-2.
With the final minutes remaining, Colorado's forward Alex Newhook would try and tie the game with a goal on Petr Mrazek. However, head coach Luke Richardson and the coaching staff decided to take a chance and challenge the goal for goaltender interference. In the end, the overturn call would help Chicago remain victorious.
"That was just the proper call and they got it right, in my opinion," Richardson said. "We deserved that opportunity to win that challenge and win the game."

THREE IN A ROW

Following the contest, the team would record their third straight win for their first winning streak since their four-game streak from Oct. 15-25. Sam Lafferty felt the team is starting to come together and building off the momentum they have created.
"I think we're just defending a little bit harder, we're starting to feel a little better about ourselves and get some momentum,' Lafferty said. "So, it's a lot more fun winning and we just want to keep pushing."
Mrazek also earned his first win since Dec. 3 and made a total of 31 saves off 33 shots faced. Even when facing some tough chances in the beginning of the matchup, he still felt confident within his game.
"I felt good today, especially early on when they came hard and they had some chances there," Mrazek said. "But when you make a stop on a breakaway you feel more confident and better, and I think it was good that whole game."
As the team enters the halfway point of the season, Richardson described the difficulties that they can face while racking up losses. However, with the wins, it can add to the confidence level and bring the team together once again.

"When you're winning, it feels effortless," Richardson said. "And these guys just feel like coming to the rink and feel like working for each other and it's fun to watch."

SUCCESS ON THE PENALTY KILL

The Blackhawks penalty kill went 3-for-3 on the night and were able to shut down the power play unit of Nathan MacKinnon and Cale Makar. Mrazek credited the team's success tonight from the big kills the special teams unit made in the first period.
"That was a huge part of the game," Mrazek said. "I think it was like eight or 10 minutes in shorthand, so big thanks to the guys out there."

After facing recent struggles within that unit, some recent lineup changes allowed different looks to be added for the team. Heading into the game, Richardson noted that the team was able to create a good plan to maintain that heavy pressure.
"We still put pressure on them and it puts them under the gun to make a play the blue line," Richardson said. "I thought we turn over a lot of pucks there and we did a great job in the zone. We had a good plan and I thought the guys really executed."

LAFFTERY TALLIES ON

In the first period, Sam Lafferty put the Blackhawks on the board first with a breakaway and record his fifth point (2G, 3A) in his last six games.
"Momentum is a funny thing," Lafferty said. "Sometimes you get the bounces and it's just some pucks are going in and we'll take it."
