Regula has appeared in four games with the Blackhawks this season

The Chicago Blackhawks today announced that they have recalled defenseman Alec Regula from the Rockford IceHogs of the American Hockey League.

Regula has appeared in four games with the Blackhawks this season. He has 17 points (2G, 15A) in 27 games with Rockford during the 2021-22 campaign.

Five goals against in just over seven minutes of gameplay reverses strong start for Chicago

For the first 30 or so minutes of Sunday's game, the Blackhawks looked like they might be able to pull out an upset win over one of the best in the East.

They controlled much of the offense in the first period against the Tampa Bay Lightning, robbed on multiple occasions by the stellar netminding of Andrei Vasilevskiy to only be up 1-0 after 20 minutes in what could've been a two- or three-goal lead.

Even when Tampa got on the board off a broken play in the slot in the second, Patrick Kane answered just five minutes later to put Chicago back in front.

DeBrincat, Kane and Strome each net goal, assist in loss to defending champions

The Blackhawks started strong in their first meeting of the season against the defending-champion Lightning, but the visitors struck in two flurries of tallies -- twice in 90 seconds and thrice in 32 seconds -- as Chicago fell at home, 6-3.

Dylan Strome, Patrick Kane and Alex DeBrincat all pushed their point streaks to three straight with a goal and an assist each on the evening. Marc-Andre Fleury made 26 saves in the loss.

Chicago drops back-and-forth matinee in Philly

The Blackhawks and Flyers went back in forth on Saturday afternoon in a game that saw four different leads, the last held by Philadelphia in a 4-3 loss for Chicago on the East Coast. 

Alex DeBrincat scored his 150th career goal and Dylan Strome found a pair of goals in the defeat. Kevin Lankinen made 23 stops in goal.

Niklas Hjalmarsson, who used to intercept shots for a living, had only to block out his emotions Thursday night. He aced that too. Before a highly affectionate crowd at the United Center, the beloved former Blackhawks' defenseman sprinkled his brief Legacy Night remarks with humor, gratitude and sincerity. An emotional sort, The Hammer didn't require any tissues or his customary accoutrement before leaving any rink, an ice pack.

"When I got traded, I never got to say goodbye," Hjlamarsson said before stepping on the red carpet. "This was the proper way to do it. I'm not sure I deserve this, but I am thankful. So spoiled."

Chicago takes season series over Edmonton with OT win Thursday night

Sixty minutes were not enough to decide the season series between the Blackhawks and the Oilers, with Chicago taking an overtime win on Thursday night at the United Center, their second of the season over Edmonton. 

Sam Lafferty, Patrick Kane and Dominik Kubalik all scored in regulation before Alex DeBrincat played overtime hero. Marc-Andre Fleury stopped 28 shots in his 17th win of the season. 

Jonathan Toews (concussion protocol), Tyler Johnson (neck), Riley Stillman (left shoulder) and Calvin de Haan (groin) all made their returns to the lineup on Thursday night as well.
