Rockford Appoints GM, Coaching Staff

The Rockford IceHogs have named Al MacIsaac as its General Manager of Hockey Operations, Mike Haviland as Head Coach and Ted Dent as Assistant Coach for the 2007-08 season.


Entering its ninth season of professional hockey in Rockford, the IceHogs will begin its first as members of the American Hockey League and as the direct affiliate of the National Hockey League's Chicago Blackhawks.

Al MacIsaac will serve as the IceHogs General Manager of Hockey Operations in ‘07-08. The campaign marks MacIsaac's eighth with the Blackhawks organization. MacIsaac filled a similar role with the Norfolk Admirals (AHL) over the past 15 seasons. While in Norfolk and under MacIsaac's watch, the Admirals never had a losing season in its seven seasons in the AHL.

Mike Haviland was named the seventh head coach in IceHogs history and brings forth an impressive resume. Entering his seventh season as a head coach, Haviland brings plenty of accolades and accomplishments to Rockford with him.

Last season, his second with Norfolk, Haviland was given the AHL's Louis A.R. Pieri Award as the league's Outstanding Coach. In 2006-07, Haviland led the Admirals to its best record in franchise history, 50-22-6-2, and highest point total with 108.

This season is Haviland's third in the AHL and with the Blackhawks organization. In his two seasons with the Admirals, the Middletown, NJ native has a combined record of 93-51-6-10.

Prior to his stop in Norfolk, Haviland coached for four season's in the ECHL winning two Kelly Cup Championships. In just his second season behind the bench, Haviland's Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies (ECHL) claimed the Kelly Cup Championship in 2002-03.

Two seasons later, while at the helm of the Trenton Titans, Haviland guided his club to another ECHL championship. After four successful campaigns in the ECHL, Haviland was promoted to the AHL's Admirals. Overall, in six seasons, Haviland has compiled a record of 265-132-51, a winning percentage of .648.

Assisting Haviland will be Ted Dent. Dent begins his second season as the Assistant Coach of the Blackhawks top farm team. This isn't the first time that Dent has coached with Haviland, as the Toronto, Ontario native was the assistant on Haviland's Kelly Cup Champion Titans club in ‘04-05.

Dent was the head coach of the Columbia Inferno (ECHL) the season before joining the Admirals staff. Following a four year playing career in the pro ranks, Dent was the Video Coordinator for the Washington Capitals (NHL) from 1999-2004.
