Contract-Johnson-16x9

The Chicago Blackhawks announced today that they have agreed to terms with forward Reese Johnson on a two-year contract extension that runs through the 2023-24 season ($800,000 salary cap hit).
Johnson, 23, has played in 28 contests with the Blackhawks this season, registering six points (1G, 5A). He tallied his first NHL points on Nov. 23 at Calgary, scoring his first career goal and adding an assist. Johnson's 23.30 hits per 60 minutes this season rank second in the NHL (20GP minimum). The forward has also skated in seven games with the Rockford IceHogs of the American Hockey League this year, totaling three points (1G, 2A).

"Reese's work ethic and competitiveness are characteristics we're always looking for in players we have in our system," said General Manager Kyle Davidson. "He is difficult to play against and brings a hard-nosed mentality to each game. Possessing those attributes makes us excited to be able to keep him in the fold of our organization."
Originally signed as an undrafted free agent by Chicago on March 6, 2019, Johnson has played in 33 career games with the Blackhawks and recorded 23 points (9G, 14A) in 83 career games with the IceHogs.
Prior to joining the Blackhawks organization, the 6-foot-1, 193-pound forward played with the Red Deer Rebels of the Western Hockey League from 2014-19, compiling 100 points (55G, 45A) in 187 career games and captaining the club in his final season during the 2018-19 campaign. He skated in 15 career postseason contests with the Rebels, notching eight points (3G, 5A).
