GAME RECAP

CHI: 1, DET: 0

1st - 4:19 - Mattias Janmark (Carl Soderberg, Nikita Zadorov)

The Blackhawks struck first with their first shot on goal nearly five minutes into action in Detroit. Gathering the puck behind the net, Carl Soderberg walked out towards the right dot and put a no-look spin pass from his backhand across the slot for Mattias Janmark on the weak side. The winger quickly put a shot into the gaping cage for a 1-0 advantage.

1st - 16:09 - Dominik Kubalik (Brandon Hagel)

Dominik Kubalik and Brandon Hagel combined from start to finish to give the Blackhawks a 2-0 lead late in the opening frame. Kubalik broke up a Detroit pass in the neutral zone with the puck deflecting into the path of Hagel, who quickly turned the other way on the offensive. The rookie drove into the zone and sent a backhand pass to a streaking Kubalik in the crease, where the sophomore forward chipped a shot past Thomas Greiss.

1st - 19:45 - Vladislav Namestnikov (Patrik Nemeth)

Detroit pulled one back in the dying seconds of the first period as Vladislav Namestnikov found Patrik Nemeth with a cross-ice feed. Nemeth's ensuing shot towards goal was denied by Malcolm Subban, but the rebound fell right to Namestnikov on the weak side for the tap-in tally.

CHI: 2, DET: 2

3rd - 5:49 - Christian Djoos (Frans Nielsen, Adam Erne)

After a scoreless middle frame, the Red Wings pulled even early in the third off an individual effort from newcomer Christian Djoos. Frans Nielsen sent a puck from the corner to Djoos crossing the blue line off a change, and the defenseman faked a shot in the high slot, cut to his left and ripped a quick wrister past Malcolm Subban for the equalizer.
