Prospect Roundup: DeBrincat leads OHL playoff scoring

On Mondays, chicagoblackhawks.com will highlight players who stood out for their minor-league, junior, college or European teams in the previous week's action. All prospect/system stats will be updated weekly throughout the season.

1st Star: RW Alex DeBrincat, Erie Otters (OHL)
The Line: 2GP, 1G, 6A

DeBrincat notched four consecutive multi-point outings to help Erie sweep their first-round series against Sarnia in the OHL Playoffs. Last week, he posted a goal and two helpers last Monday in Game 3, then followed up with four assists in a 9-3 win for the sweep two nights later. The 2016 second-round pick leads the league with 13 playoff points, including 11 helpers. Erie will face the winner of the London-Windsor series, which is currently tied 3-3.

2nd Star: C Matthew Highmore, Saint John Sea Dogs (QMJHL)
The Line: 2GP, 2G, 2A

Highmore notched a pair of multi-point games to help Saint John complete a four-game sweep of Rimouski in the First Round of the QMJHL Playoffs; his goal in Game 3 last Tuesday was the eventual game-winner, and he assisted on the series-clinching goal in Game 4 the next night. He finished with seven points in his first four postseason tilts, third on the team. The Sea Dogs await their next opponent, as teams are reseeded after the first two rounds.

3rd Star: LW Alexandre Fortin, Rouyn-Noranda Huskies (QMJHL)
The Line: 3GP, 3G, 1A

After recording just one point in his first three playoff games with Rouyn-Noranda, Fortin erupted for three goals and an assist in Games 4 and 5. He tallied twice in regulation in Game 5 last Friday before assisting on the game-winner in triple overtime, helping the reigning QMJHL champions take a 3-2 series lead on Halifax; Game 6 takes place on Monday evening.

  • Radovan Bondra notched a goal and two assists in three postseason tilts with the Western Hockey League's Prince George Cougars last week, including a multi-point effort (1G, 1A) in Game 4 last Thursday. The 2015 fifth-round pick has five points in his WHL Playoffs debut, as Prince George trails Portland 3-2 in the series, with Game 6 taking place Monday night ... Winger John Dahlstrom landed on the scoresheet in four straight games to help the WHL's Medicine Hat Tigers complete a first-round sweep over Brandon, including a goal and an assist in the last two games of the series. Medicine Hat will play either Moose Jaw or Swift Current in the next round ... Graham Knott tallied three points in three playoff contests with the Windsor last week in the OHL Playoffs. He netted two goals, including the overtime winner in Game 4 last Thursday, before adding an assist in a Game 5 loss the next night.

  • Brandon Mashinter had a big week for the American Hockey League's Rockford IceHogs, compiling a goal and three assists in three outings. He opened the scoring in a 3-1 win over Texas on Friday, then added three helpers the next night in a 4-1 win over Grand Rapids. Mashinter ranks third on the team with 28 points (14G, 14A) ... Matheson Iacopelli made his professional debut with Rockford over the weekend after leaving Western Michigan University and tallied the game-winner on Friday for his first AHL point and goal ... Defenseman Erik Gustafsson recorded a pair of helpers in three games last week to reach the 30-point mark. He leads team defensemen in scoring and ranks second overall with 167 shots on goal this season.
