Brent Seabrook and Jonathan Toews share the same address. Now the roomies get to share the same letter on their sweaters as well.
Blackhawks head coach Denis Savard announced Monday that Seabrook and Toews would wear the alternate captain's 'A' for the month of December along with veteran winger Martin Lapointe, who has worn the letter all season with a pair of rotating alternates.
Savard admitted he had not planned for the rookie Toews to wear a letter this soon, but said the 19 year-old had "earned it." Savard admires Toews' work ethic on and off the ice as much as he does his 10 goals and 10 assists in 24 games.
"People started suggesting pretty early that maybe I had some of the qualities you look for in a leader and it's a huge honor," Toews said. "It gives me a lot of confidence, but I'm not going to change too much. I don't think this is my time to be more vocal. I'm just going to continue to play hard and do my job."
Seabrook wasn't surprised to see Toews get the 'A' at so early into his rookie campaign.
"There are many guys capable of filling that role in this room. [Toews] is a great guy who works hard and is fun to watch," Seabrook said.
