Pirates Sink Admirals In OT

PORTLAND, ME - The Norfolk Admirals (41-17-5-1) erased a two-goal third period deficit to force overtime. However, the Portland Pirates (26-22-3-8) prevailed in the extra session to hand the Admirals a 5-4 setback on Sunday afternoon at the Cumberland County Civic Center.

Norfolk and Portland traded first period markers, as Drew Miller scored at 8:54 for the Pirates and Troy Brouwer netted a power play goal for the visiting Admirals at 12:34.

Ryan Carter gave Portland the lead with a goal at 1:52 of the second period. Former Pirate Pierre Parenteau scored a power play goal for the Admirals to knot the score at two goals apiece at 3:25.

However, the remainder of the second stanza belonged to the Pirates. Mark Hartigan's goal at 4:02 and Mike Hoffman's marker at 16:09 gave the home team a 4-2 lead after forty minutes.

Norfolk's comeback began while shorthanded midway through the third period when Carl Corazzini scored at 9:35. Brouwer's second power play tally of the contest at 13:17 squared the sides at four goals apiece through regulation.

However, Brian Salcido ended the Admirals' comeback efforts and gave Portland a 5-4 victory with a power play goal at 2:51 of overtime.

Mike Brodeur (38 shots, 33 saves) got the loss. Former Admiral Sebastien Caron (34 shots, 30 saves) picked up the victory.

Norfolk was 3-9 on the power play while Portland was 1-8.
