NORFOLK - Corey Crawford made 31 saves on 32 shots and Captain Craig MacDonald tallied two goals as the Admirals stretched their winning streak to six with a 3-1 victory over Hartford.
For the seventh consecutive game, the Admirals netted the game's first goal. While on the power play, James Wisniewski fed Brandon Bochenski at the left faceoff circle. Bochenski settled the puck down before sending a sharp wrist shot from the faceoff dot past Hartford goaltender Al Montoya's glove at 5:31 of the first period. Norfolk led 1-0 after one period.
Midway through the second period, Carl Corazzini won a battle for the puck at the half-wall in the attacking zone. He dished it to MacDonald, who wired a shot from the right faceoff circle over Montoya's right shoulder at 11:31.
Just 30 seconds later, Ryan Callahan tipped a Bryce Lampman point blast past Crawford to cut the Norfolk lead in half. The Admirals led 2-1 heading into the final frame.
Crawford's strong goaltending made the Admirals' one-goal lead stand through the third period, as he turned aside fourteen Hartford shots in the third period. MacDonald tallied an empty netter with just 32 seconds remaining to seal a 3-1 victory for the Admirals.
Norfolk's six-game winning streak is its second longest in franchise history. The AHL Admirals' franchise record for most consecutive wins is eight between March 15, 2002 at Cleveland to March 29, 2002 versus Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.
Crawford made 31 saves on 32 shots in the victory and now has a 1.25 GAA and .952 save percentage on the season with four wins and a shutout. Al Montoya stopped 19 of 21 shots and was saddled with the loss.
Norfolk was 1-6 on the power play. The Admirals have now killed 22 consecutive penalties over a three-game span, as they shut down all of Hartford's ten power play opportunities.
