The Chicago Blackhawks, in conjunction with the National Hockey League, announced today that the team has been selected to participate in the 2016 Coors Light NHL Stadium Series. The game will take place on Feb. 21, 2016, at TCF Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minn. against the Minnesota Wild.
“The Chicago Blackhawks are honored to participate in the 2016 Coors Light NHL Stadium Series against the Minnesota Wild at TCF Bank Stadium,” said Blackhawks President and CEO John McDonough. “Playing outdoors in the great north symbolizes the essence of hockey in its purest form.”
This will mark the Blackhawks’ second Stadium Series appearance and NHL record fourth outdoor game. Chicago hosted the Detroit Red Wings in the 2009 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic on Jan. 1, 2009, at historic Wrigley Field. The team also hosted the Pittsburgh Penguins in the NHL Stadium Series at Soldier Field on March 1, 2014. Earlier this season, the Blackhawks participated in the 2015 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic on Jan. 1, 2015 at Nationals Park in Washington, D.C.
Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews currently holds the NHL record for the most all-time points in outdoor game history (2g, 3a).
More information on the 2016 NHL Stadium series, including tickets and television information will be announced at a later time.
