Chicago, Ill.- Chicago Blackhawks General Manager Dale Tallon announced on Tuesday that the National Hockey league club has signed center Martin St. Pierre and assigned him to the Rockford IceHogs of the American Hockey League. St. Pierre is expected to join Rockford in time for the IceHogs game on Tuesday night in San Antonio against the Rampage.
St. Pierre enters his fourth season in the pro ranks and third with the Blackhawks organization. The 5-9 center began the season playing with the Mytishi Khimik of the Russian league. St. Pierre played 14 games with the Khimik before his return to the AHL.
Last season St. Pierre led the Norfolk Admirals with 99 points despite playing in just 65 games due to two NHL re-calls to the Blackhawks. The Embrun, Ontario native’s point total was a career high in the pro game, plus he added a goal and three assists with Chicago in 14 games.
St. Pierre was instrumental on the Admirals' power play a season ago as he racked up 10 goals and 34 assists on the advantage. Overall last season, the high scoring pivot man totaled 29 multi-point games in Norfolk including 13 contests with three points or more.
