Defenseman Niklas Hjalmarsson will miss 4-6 weeks with a wrist and forearm injury, Blackhawks head coach Denis Savard said Friday.
Hjalmarsson, a 4th round pick in 2005, suffered the injury while playing back in his native Sweden last week and has not participated in any on-ice workouts thus far at Blackhawks training camp.
Hjalmarsson had previously planned to remain in Sweden one more season but decided to come to North America after a standout performance at Prospects Camp in July. He was expected to begin the season with Rockford in the American Hockey League.
With Hjalmarsson out, the Blackhawks have 15 defensemen on their training camp roster.
