Hawks Recall Versteeg, Hjalmarsson

General Manager Dale Tallon announced today that the Blackhawks have recalled forward Kris Versteeg and defenseman Niklas Hjalmarsson from Rockford of the AHL.

Versteeg has appeared in 41 games for Rockford scoring 12 goals while adding 23 assists for 35 points with 138 penalty minutes and a +3 rating.

This will be his third recall of the season by the Blackhawks. Versteeg has appeared in 11 games for the Blackhawks this season with2 goals and 4 points and 6 penalty minutes. Versteeg played in his first career NHL game on November 22nd at Calgary. He scored his first career NHL goal on January 3rd at Phoenix.

Versteeg, 21, was acquired by the Blackhawks from the Boston Bruins in exchange for Brandon Bochenski on February 3, 2007.

Hjalmarsson has appeared in 38 games for Rockford this season scoring 3 goals to go along with 4 assists for 7 points and 25 penalty minutes.

Hjalmarsson, 20, stands at 6.03 and weighs in at 196 pounds. He was the Blackhawks’ 4th round pick (108th overall) in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft. He has never played in an NHL game.
